EVP, Chief Merchandising Officer
George Goldfarb is president and CEO of maurices, a position he has held since 2011. He has strong tenure with maurices and has led the company in a variety of roles, including EVP, chief operating officer and SVP, chief financial officer.
In his current role, George oversees all aspects of maurices’ operations, including its more than $1.1 billion in annual revenue, top tier industry profitability and more than 975 stores in the US and Canada.
Prior to joining the maurices team, George worked in public accounting. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. His leadership and commitment to education and philanthropy is an asset to the organization and community. Goldfarb is a Director for ALLETE and a member of the Chancellor’s Advisory Board at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He has held prior board roles with the Labovitz School of Business and Economics and various philanthropic organizations.
Erin Stern joined maurices in 2013 as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. In this position, Erin is responsible for merchandising, design and the maurices brand. She works in design, marketing, visual and stores to develop and deliver differentiating, seamless customer experiences.
A talented merchant and exceptional business leader, Erin brings to her position more than two decades of retail experience. Prior to joining maurices, Erin was Chief Merchant Officer for Juicy Couture and before that, President of bebe Sport. Erin spent the majority of her career with GAP Inc., in the Old Navy division, where she held senior leadership roles across multiple product categories.
Erin graduated with her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. Her leadership and strategic vision help maurices continue to broaden its appeal and deliver greater value to its customers.
CMO, EVP of Digital Channels
EVP, Human Resources
Ali Wing is the chief marketing officer and EVP of digital channels at maurices. Ali started her career with NIKE in marketing (NIKE women and sport casual) and later moved into corporate development (NIKE and NIKE International).
From creating brand, marketing and digital strategies for venture capital–backed multichannel retail concepts like Gazoontite to founding and launching giggle, a multichannel retailer, wholesaler and licenser of baby products, Ali’s passion and legacy is brand building and innovation.
Ali was born in Northern California and raised in Montana, where she was one of nine children, five of whom were adopted from different cultures. With a lifelong focus on healthy living and community, she is a champion of ecological issues and is active on several boards. In 2014, she was honored with the Corporate Champion Award from Worldwide Orphans Foundation.
She continues to track new courses both personally and publicly, as a businesswoman, an outdoorswoman, a wife, and a mother. Her education includes an MBA from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a JD from the Northwestern School of Law.
Sue Ross joined the maurices team in 1990 and assumed her current role of executive vice president of human resources in 2002. In this position, Sue leads and evolves the company’s culture to help maurices maintain its status as a preferred place to work.
She serves the company’s 8,000 associates by leading all human resource functions, including talent acquisition, organizational development, talent and performance management, organizational effectiveness, compensation, benefits, and diversity/inclusion. Since maurices joined the Ascena family in 2007, Sue has also been closely involved in leading philanthropy, communication and exchange of best practices.
Prior to joining maurices, Sue worked for the University of Minnesota, creating student recruitment strategies and holding various human resource positions. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Sue is involved in many aspects of the community and serves on several boards.
SVP, Chief Financial Officer
Brian Thun, senior vice president and chief financial officer, has been with the company for more than 20 years. Brian assumed his current role in 2012 after holding the position of vice president, controller for the previous eight years.
Brian oversees all financial functions for the maurices brand, including financial planning, inventory systems and real estate accounting. He also has responsibilities for store planning, real estate leasing, legal and purchasing. One of Brian’s key functions is partnering with Ascena and outside vendors to ensure strong accounting measures are upheld throughout the organization.
Prior to joining the maurices team, Brian worked in public accounting. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from St. Cloud State University and is a CPA. Brian is on the executive boards for the Area Partnership for Economic Expansion (APEX) and the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce.
With more than 25 years of retail-management experience, Neil McPhail is an expert at shaping and executing company business strategies to create profitable growth. Neil joined the maurices team in 2012 as senior vice president and head of stores, a position in which he leads the company in delivering first-rate customer and employee experiences.
Prior to maurices, Neil spent 15 years working for Best Buy, most recently serving as senior vice president and general manager of new business solutions. A visionary retail strategist, Neil is credited with improving employee and customer experiences through talent-maximization strategies that increase morale, revenue, profit and retention. He brings to his position a strong passion for and experience in developing groundbreaking business models, formats, and global-growth initiatives that increase company revenue.
Neil graduated from Duke University in Durham, N.C., has completed several prestigious leadership development programs, including the Executive Development Program at the International Institute for Management Development.
SVP, Planning and Allocation
SVP of Real Estate & Construction
A maurices team member since 1988, Mike Herrick is senior vice president of planning and allocation. In this position, which he assumed in 2006, Mike oversees all aspects of planning, allocation and distribution of goods.
Prior to joining maurices, Mike gained experience from working as an assistant buyer at P&A Bergner and Gimbel’s Midwest. His business acumen and ability to understand and analyze all facets of the retail arena are incredible assets to maurices.
Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Jeff Holmes, senior vice president of real estate and construction, has been with maurices since 1998. Jeff assumed his current role in 2015, and oversees all aspects of Real Estate and Construction. One of Jeff’s key responsibilities is sustaining our new store, relocation, and expansion real estate strategy to ensure we stay competitive and ahead of the market.
Jeff brought over 5 years of retail experience when he joined the maurices team and has been instrumental in growing the chain across both the US and Canada. His ability to implement growth strategies and inspire his team are remarkable assets to maurices.
Jeff holds a B.A. in Management from the College of St. Scholastica and is a Miller Dwan Foundation board member in Duluth, MN.
